Podcon! Part Deux!
Opening session of the first annual Podcon.
On the weekend of December 9th 2017 Seattle Washington became home for the first annual podcast convention for fans. PodCon is the brainchild of Hank Green, Joseph Fink, Jeffrey Canor, and Travis and Justin McElroy. They created a place where people (fans and creators) could get together and celebrate podcasting. Fans were able to get up with their favorite podcast creators and chat about their favorite moments and take pictures. Attendees were also able to take part in a weekend full of workshops and talks about the business of podcasting. Audiences were also able to watch live recordings of their favorite shows. Here are some of the highlights
From L to R creator of The Far Meridian Eli Baraza, Actor Kristen DiMercurio AKA Dr. Sally Grissom, and Yours Truly L. Jeffrey Moore
For me I was very excited to attend so I could network and meet other podcasters. Most importantly I was able to meet my fellow cast members of "ars Paradoxica " and The Far Meridian " in real life. Our production, led by sound designer guru Mischa Stanton, records our sessions separately and he edits each episode to perfection. Getting to meet these wonderful people was really exciting as I have grown fond of the show and even though I get the scripts ahead of time and know what's going on, I still get a kick out of hearing the final product once it goes live.
Creators of ars Paradoxica Daniel Manning, and Mischa Stanton, with writer and creator of The Far Meridian Eli Baraza
Going to a convention about podcasting was eye opening as I never thought that I would be doing serial podcasts. And thanks to these three writers/creators, talking about the craft of writing these stories, I hope to work with them more.
Writer for ars Paradoxica and the creator for my character Lou Gains, Julian Mundy.
Writer Julian Mundy is the guy who created my character "Lou Gains" A Veteran, Journalist, and former college professor who was fired because of the red scare. His entry in top secret time travel conspiracies is complex, but he has to get to the bottom of solving his friends disappearance. We hit it off immediately talking about our love for this characters thirst for knowledge and investigation all tied up in a film noir aesthetic. If you haven't checked out the episode "Gumshoe," do so. I lead this episode as I search for a dear friend of mine.
Rod and Karen Morrow hosts of "The Black Guy Who Tips"
I was lucky enough to meet a lot of great creators. This lovely couple hails from my home state of North Carolina! Rod and Karen Morrow host the daily podcast: " The Black Guy Who Tips." Their take on current news topics is refreshing and their audience comes from all walks of life and they look like they’re having a great time. I was lucky enough to talk to them a bit and grab this photo.
A great talk on podcasters of color. From L to R Dylan Marron, Paul Bae, Franchesca Ramzey, Rod Morrow, Karen Morrow, and Aparna Nancherla
Diversity is very important, and representation matters, even if the medium doesn't allow you to see them. Relevant topics of today are just as important in other communities and should be discussed in a matter that effects them, without judgement. This panel was made up of a variety of creators who make narratives and news commentating in a variety of perspectives.
From L to R Eli Barraza, our beloved fan from Canada, Actor/writer Danielle Shemaiah, L. Jeffrey Moore, and Erin aka our crew wrangler
How cool is it to have a fan all the way from Toronto Canada and come to PodCon to take part in all the great events and workshops! She also wanted to meet the cool people from ars Paradoxica! Well that's exactly what happened!
